“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.”
Reflection
This verse comes in Paul’s teaching about how Christ has reconciled Jew and Gentile into one body. The dividing wall of hostility has been torn down (v. 14), and now both groups are brought near to God—not by works, not by the law, but through Jesus.
Notice the Trinitarian richness:
- Through Him (Christ) – Jesus is the mediator, the one who opened the way by His cross.
- In one Spirit – The Holy Spirit draws us, unites us, and makes our prayers heard.
- To the Father – The end goal: fellowship and communion with God Himself.
For us today, this verse is a reminder of our direct access to God. We don’t need human mediators or rituals to draw near—we come boldly through Christ, empowered by the Spirit, welcomed by the Father. And this access is shared: no hierarchy of worthiness, no division, only one family of faith.
Scripture Connections
- John 14:6 – “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
- Romans 5:2 – “Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand.”
- Hebrews 4:16 – “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace.”
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me access to You through Jesus Christ. Thank You for the Spirit who brings me near and intercedes for me. Help me to never take this gift for granted but to walk daily in the joy of being Your child, welcomed into Your presence. Amen.
