Scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
Reflection: In the fast-paced rhythm of our daily lives, it’s easy to become swept away by the torrents of anxiety, doubt, and fear. Yet, in the midst of chaos, God speaks to us through His timeless Word, inviting us to find refuge in His unfailing presence and sovereign care.
“Be still,” the Psalmist declares, echoing the gentle command of our heavenly Father. It’s an invitation to pause, to cease striving, and to rest in the assurance of God’s steadfast love and power. As Lutherans, we understand the significance of this call to stillness – it’s not merely a passive idleness, but an active surrender to the sovereignty of God.
To “know that I am God” is to recognize and acknowledge the greatness of our Creator. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Almighty who reigns supreme over all creation. In a world filled with uncertainty and turmoil, God remains unchanging and steadfast. His promises are sure, His purposes unshakable. As Lutherans, we cling to the truth of God’s Word, finding strength and hope in His faithfulness.
“I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – these words resound with the certainty of God’s ultimate victory. Despite the challenges we face, despite the trials that threaten to overwhelm us, God’s glory will shine forth brightly. His kingdom will come, and His will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven. As Lutherans, we are called to live in anticipation of this glorious truth, bearing witness to God’s redemptive work in the world.
In the stillness of our hearts, let us surrender our fears and anxieties to God, trusting in His unfailing love and sovereign care. Let us exalt His name among the nations, proclaiming His goodness and mercy to all who will listen. And let us walk in faith, knowing that our God is with us always, guiding us through every storm and leading us into the everlasting peace of His presence.
Prayer: Gracious God, in the midst of life’s storms, help us to be still and know that you are God. Strengthen our faith, that we may trust in your sovereignty and rest in your unfailing love. May your name be exalted among the nations, and may your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
