– A Devotion on John 1:1 (ESV)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Reflection:
John’s Gospel reveals that Jesus Christ is not only fully human but fully divine—the eternal Word through whom all things were created. As Luther emphasized, Christ is truly God, present at creation and yet humbly entering our world to rescue sinners. This profound truth comforts us because the same eternal Word who spoke creation into existence also speaks forgiveness, grace, and salvation into our lives through His cross and empty tomb.
As Lutherans, we hold tightly to this truth: Christ, the Word made flesh, stands forever as our Savior, our comfort, and our hope.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Eternal Word, thank You for stepping into our humanity to save us. Strengthen our faith through Your holy Word, reminding us daily of Your love, forgiveness, and promise of eternal life. Amen.
