“For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100:5 ESV

This verse is the reason for everything before it.

The psalm has been a series of commands. Make a joyful noise. Serve with gladness. Come into His presence with singing. Enter His gates with thanksgiving. And then verse five begins with for, which is the psalmist explaining why any of that makes sense.

Worship is not the mood. It is the response to a fact.

That order matters more than we let it.

We tend to worship out of whatever we woke up feeling. When things are going well, gratitude comes easily. When the season is hard, when the numbers are wrong and the pressure has not lifted, the joyful noise gets quiet. Not out of rebellion. It just seems dishonest to praise from inside a difficult stretch.

That is the Law naming how much of our worship rests on circumstances rather than on God.

But look at what the psalmist actually anchors to. Not his situation. Three things about God that have nothing to do with the day you are having.

The Lord is good. Not doing good things for you at the moment. Good in Himself.

His steadfast love endures forever. Past every season you will ever walk through.

His faithfulness to all generations. Proven across every generation that came before you and still holding for the ones after.

None of that shifted overnight. None of it depends on how this week goes.

You can sing from inside the hard part, because the reason to sing is not the hard part.

Prayer:

Lord, when my praise depends on my circumstances, bring me back to who You are. You are good, Your love endures, and Your faithfulness has never once failed a generation. That is enough to sing about today. Amen.
